HONG KONG (AFP) - Chinese President Hu Jintao will present US counterpart George W. Bush, under fire for the handling of Iraq, with a copy of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War," a report said.

Hu, who arrived Tuesday on a four-day visit to the United States, will meet Bush in Washington Thursday when he is expected to hand over the book, an ancient Chinese text on military strategy.

The book is famed for insights such as: "Winning without fighting is the best strategy of all."

The text was written by Sun Tzu, a general believed to have lived in the 6th century BC and a contemporary of Confucius, one of China's great philosophers.

Each set contains two versions, one English and one Chinese. In the Chinese version, characters are woven into the silk pages with 155,000 mulberry silk threads. The English version is printed on silk.
