9. Nihilism is a natural outcome of discerning the "Big Lie"
For those raised in religious houses that simply do not take to the religious upbringing or those that later discover they don't buy it the collapse of everything they were taught can destroy a bit more than just a belief in god. Many build up their sense of reason for being from their beliefs. With everything behind it suddenly seen as fraudulent the reason for life gets the boot as well.

There seems to be some sense on the part of most that life is supposed to have a reason given to it by an external source. This need not be true. Life may have no inherant reason. But this doesn't mean that we cannot apply our own sensibilities to it and give our life our own reason.

Life has no purpose other than what we make of it. We are more than able to come up with our own sense of what to do with life.
