289. 'Grinch of the Year Contest-Party'; Seattle 12/12
As we celebrate the holidays with our 13th annual . . .
'Grinch of the Year Contest-Party'
Wednesday, December 12th
6:00pm to 8:00pm
Zaina Café (in the basement of the Seattle Labor Temple)
2800 1st Ave, Seattle

In honor of our capitalist democracy, the more tickets you buy, the more votes you get! $1 = 1 Vote. Vote early and vote often by buying tickets online, downloading a flyer and mailing in the ticket at the bottom along with your payment to PO Box 9662, Seattle WA 98109, or attending the Grinch Party on December 12th where the votes will be tallied and winners announced.

Catered appetizers from Zaina Café. Drinks available for purchase. Children Free. No one turned away for lack of funds.
This year's infamous finalists are . . .

Greedy 'Gubby' the Overpaid Premera CEO - Herbert Randle Brereton ("Gubby") Barlow

Father Frost of the Northwest Paul Dockendorff - Founder/CEO, Northwest Security Services, Inc.

OOr write-in your own candidate in!

Reasons for Greedy Gubby's Nomination:

For the first six months of this year Premera's cash reserves have skyrocketed to $746 million. But instead of lowering rates Premera was caught siphoning $37 million from their individual policy holders in Washington to prop up their for-profit operations in Arizona. Then in November Premera turned around and raised rates on those same policy holders by 22.5 percent!

It's wrong to raise rates on the most vulnerable policy holders--small businesses and the self-employed- -when Premera has such a huge surplus. And it's wrong to make them pay to subsidize Premera's for-profit activities in other states. (Mr. Barlow himself earned almost $2 million last year, about double what the CEOs of the other two largest insurance companies in WA made.)

This January, community organizations will be asking the state legislature to restore to the Insurance Commissioner the power to regulate rates on individual policies. By recognizing Gubby Barlow as Grinch of the Year, we can show support for that and shine a light on how the big insurance companies are exploiting us all.

Reasons for Father 'Dockendorff' Frost's Nomination:

The majority of Seattle and Bellevue security officers are working together with community allies, political leaders, responsible security contractors, and Service Employees Int'l Union Local 6—the security officers union—to raise standards in areas such as pay and health care benefits, professionalize their industry, and keep buildings and tenants safe and secure. Paul Dockendorff has refused to take part in this effort.

Hey, Paully, we know you consider your employees "family", but does your family pay over a third of their income for health insurance?
