5. the texdot TTC meeting in my little county almost turned into a riot
In February 2005, when the Trans Texas Corridor was first brought to the public's attention, TxDot held a show and tell at the local civic center. Lots of charts and maps. At this time the actual right of way of the proposed project was wide open - starting on the Red River somewhere between Montague and Fannin Counties and going South to Mexico. Details to be released later. Maybe twenty people showed up.
Then in July of 2006 TxDot held the second public meeting at the civic center. Now they have charts and maps of the 1200-foot wide Trans Texas Corridor going through the part of my little county where all the rich people have their horse farms and lakefront property. A thousand people showed up at this meeting all wailing and gnashing their teeth. The fire marshall had to turn hundreds away. Lots of DPS officers patrolled the scene.
TxDot held another meeting a few days later at bigger facility. The TxDot moderator guy had trouble speaking English. The crowd couldn't follow his foreign acccent and gave him lots of flak. 98 citizens spoke out against the corridor and 3 were for it.
The minions of Carol FourNames had a table set up out front.
My little county went about 78% for Goodhair Perry in the last election. When the people finally figure out that Goodhair is behind this deal, he won't get 10% of the vote.
