... what my mom referred to as "Mother Nature's mistakes" were a source of endless fascination to all of us kids at an age when we didn't grasp the tragedy of it, but it was more like going to a circus sideshow. The multitude of black and white photos were pretty unforgettable, even if none of us could decipher the dense medical text. As a consequence, I have a fairly good idea of some of the things that can go wrong. You are absolutely right: shit happens.
