Perhaps Bill Clinton is atoning for an error in judgment that he has confessed to. Or perhaps Molly Ivins is correct, he's "weak as bus station chili". Instead of the strong, charismatic politician that we've all been told endlessly that he is, maybe he's just a politician who supremely lacks any kind of moral courage.

We all know that Clinton thrived on opinion polls--and his supporters have continued to point out how popular he was when he left office. And we all know that there are a lot or racists out there in America. Perhaps his polling would gone down had he intervened in an African nation.

Maybe it takes far less fortitude to appear philanthropic once one has left office. And maybe appearing philanthropic would be a great help to one's wife's campaign. Questions about the family getting paid off to pardon drug dealers--look at how much he's done in Africa. Questions about pardoning terrorists to help buy his wife a Senate seat in a state where they had no background--look at how he flies to Latin America.

Sounds exactly like a man who doesn't give a damn about other people.
