39. I think the original point behind having SDs...
was that if the popular candidate, selected early in the primary season, turned out to have some thoroughly unacceptable scandal in his/her past or present that precluded winning the WH, then the SDs would be able to legally pick a more acceptable candidate. I think the people that dreamed up that rule assumed that in those circumstances, the Democratic electorate would be relieved rather than angry.
