6. Reid needs to go beyond just the filibuster rules
i commend Reid for respecting the minority party in the Senate ... that minority represents millions of Americans who should not be deprived of having a voice just because they are in the minority ...

toward that end, Reid's comments on the filibuster rules do NOT go nearly far enough ...

Reid needs to overturn the current Senate rules that bar the minority party from calling hearings and prevent them from issuing subpoenas to compel witnesses to testify before Congress ...

if we care about democracy, we should never allow a tyranny of the majority ... allowing the minority party to call hearings and subpoena witnesses is a critical check and balance on the majority that has been sorely missing in the Congress ...

we didn't like it when the republicans prevented us from providing necessary oversight; let's rise above petty politics and put democracy and the interests of the American people at the top of our agenda ...
