The first time I clicked away because CSPAN led off with an appearance by Bush at a Corker event. But I caught Ford's segment in an early AM replay.

He has that Clinton-type ability to speak with passion and proper emphasis for a long period of time without referring to notes or any awkward pauses where he's trying to remember what comes next. And when there was unexpected applause he had the instincts to pause, smile, and let it end. That drove me mad in '04 when Kerry would talk over his own applause lines.

My favorite part was when Ford mentioned the oil chain, borrowing from China to buy from the Middle East and pump through Alaska in pipes manufactured in Japan. He repeated it for emphasis, and perfectly. I'd like to see Bush try that, remembering or comprehending a 4-part sequence.
