GOP: Ready to 'benefit' from terror (Chicago Tribune newsblog)

This was a fun find, and wondering why the GOP cares about what John Edwards has to say (wink, wink)? Be sure to click on the link to visit the rest of the memo that went out to all their campaigns last week, so we can enjoy listening to all the little repuggies and pundits who love them repeat ad nauseum :hi:

For an idea of how the Republican Party will approach the averted terrorist assault on trans-Atlantic airliners this week, how that might play into the fall election cycle in the United States, the depth of research that Republicans are ready to bring to bear on their races and the attacks that the GOP plans on its "cut-and-run'' opposition n the Democratic Party, the best place to go is the Republican Party.

Here's a memo circulated by the National Republican Congressional Committee today. Read and see:

Re: Vigilance in the Global War on Terror

Date: August 11, 2006

__________________________________________________________________________

Recent events have reminded us that we continue to operate in a pivotal phase in the Global War on Terror.

In the days to come, you should move to question your opponent's commitment to the defeat of terror, and in turn, create a definitive contrast on the issue.

You will certainly benefit from bringing into stark focus the cut-and-run, surrender message that Democrats coast to coast are currently -- and foolishly -- embracing.

To aid you in this effort, we are including three key votes related to the War on Terror as well as materials provided by the RNC.

As always, please feel free to contact the NRCC Communications Division at (202) 479-7070 if you have any questions.

* * *

Key Votes

I. Creation of the Department of Homeland Security (HR 5005, Vote 367 , 7/26/02)

120 Democrats voted against the creation of the Department of Homeland Security -- the department responsible for coordinating the response to national security threats.

II. Original passage of the USA PATRIOT Act (HR 3162, Vote 398 , 10/24/01)

62 House Democrats voted against original passage of the USA PATRIOT Act, which gives law enforcement the necessary tools to vanquish the terrorist element.

III. Reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act (HR 3199, Vote 627 , 12/14/05)

155 House Democrats voted against reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act.
