that in Kansas the former head of the state GOP is now on the ballot with our popular incumbent Democratic Governor Kathleen Sebelius for the Lt. Gov. slot.

Paul Morrison, who was elected DA of Johnson County, KS, is running for Attorney General as a Democrat.

Cindy Neighbor, who was elected as a Republican to the Kansas State House in 2002, defeated in the Republican Primary by a right-winger (and no Dem ran in that race, alas!) is now running for that seat as a Democrat.

At least two other former Republicans are running for office as Democrats this year.

And in the all-important school board race, two moderate Republicans defeated two anti-evolution incumbents, guaranteeing that the board will be dominated by moderates after November. And there's at least one other school board seat held by a creationist that's being challenged by a Democrat.

All this is good news. But on the other hand, I heard this morning on NPR that Bush's approval rating for handling terror is above 50%. So more than half of those out there still don't get it about what a terrible job he's done since January 20, 2001.

DO NOT for one minute take for granted that we will take back the House or the Senate. Assume the worst, and support Democrats wherever possible with money, volunteer time, whatever you can afford or have the time to do.
