9. Well............
I think that if they do put up Orchulli as their candidate (he went against Dodd last time) he is a much stronger candidate than Schlesinger. I think what might be the hope behind this is that Orchulli will be an attractive enough candidate for most Republicans. Lieberman will then split the Democratic vote. Remember, most eldery people still prefer Lieberman and he does have some loyal following aside from them. With a good GOP candidate the Republicans in the state will have someone else besides Lieberman to vote for. The more loyal ones will and Lieb will end up being a spoiler for the Democrats because he will split that vote more than the GOP vote. I personally think this is the thought behind this....and a very real possible scenario.
