The Message of the Democratic Party

As my first topic for these boards, I believe this to be the most important we should be discussing in these forums.

Cleaning up the "culture of corruption". It sounds really good to us here on this board. It is something I would truly like to see happen. However, most voters I talk to, myself included, feel that this message is at best naive optimism, and at worst, shameless pandering. I don't believe that if the Democrats get back into power in the halls of congress, very much will change at all as far as corruption is concerned. It is a problem that has plagued both parties at all levels of government.

That being said, what message should we be taking to voters this year?

I believe we need to focus our energy on the war in Iraq and the failure of Bush policies here at home. I was thrilled to see Hilary Clinton (despite what you may think of her) ripping into Rumsfeld at the defense hearing. We need to start raising our voices and speaking as a party, making a real commitment to bring our troops home as soon as possible. We need to counterattack those who call us "cut and runners". We need to rekindle the images of a Bush administration that was totally disconnected to the misery befallen upon the gulf states last year. And the Republican's seeming unwillingness to ameliorate any of these problems. This is a party that is disconnected from mainstream America. They simply don't care about the problems that face middle and working class Americans. They'd rather focus on gay marriage and flag burning then soaring health care costs and rising gas prices. They will only raise the minimum wage for millions of Americans if a few thousand of the elite receive millions in tax cuts.

We need to show Americans that the Democratic Party truly is the party of the people.

Our slogan for 2006 should be, "Rebuild New Orleans, Not Baghdad"
