5. and in news elsewhere

It's pretty clear that the Bush campaign has given up on Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Washington State in the past few days. Pulling out all the money and best staff. (Don't tell their grassroots people- they're not telling them, why should we? :D )

I'm surprised they haven't pulled out of Minnesota yet, but I suspect it's about Republican turnout efforts in the bordering parts of Iowa and Wisconsin more than Minnesota. Same thing is probably true for Michigan- they're still there in an effort (focussed around Grand Rapids) whose only fundamental purpose can be to try to keep up Republican morale and turnout in northeastern Ohio in some way.

For winning Pennsylvania for Kerry, you will want to thank The Invisible Michael Whouley who got Pittsburgh and the unions on board.

Yes, the Bush campaign is in retreat out of the Blue States. They might as well concede New Hampshire while they're at it- Kerry is a New Englander, Bush a Texan, and that tips that state when elections are close there.

The game is pretty much at the point where Republicans have to put all their effort into the final defensive line of Ohio, Florida, and Nevada- and any or all of these may already be lost to their side. Kerry is trying to overextend them into Colorado.
