WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Monday condemned military-ruled Myanmar's secret trials and lengthy prison sentences for eight Shan political leaders in a Yangon court last week.

Hkun Htun Oo, Chairman of the United Nationalities Alliance, a coalition of pro-democracy ethnic parties, was sentenced to 53 years and two life sentences, the U.S. State Department said.

Six other leaders of ethnic rebel groups fighting for independence from Myanmar, the former Burma, also received multiple life sentences, the State Department said.

"These actions demonstrate that the junta's so-called 'roadmap to disciplined democracy' is neither credible nor inclusive," State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said in a statement.

So...Adam Ereli will soon be criticizing the "junta" currently ruling the United States and that "junta"'s attempts at its own secret tribunals and years-long detentions w/o charges or trials?
