We built a modern house (on the in inside) with a nondescript exterior to fit into a vacation cabin community that we live in.
Stained black concrete floors, modern furniture, minimal, but not too cold - with a constant layer of woodsy cat gunk and fur to remove.

The kitchen opens onto the living dining room and has art, & our framed photography, no upper cabinets, no books, just furniture and plants and the view.

I have a ton of built-in bookshelves in the loft bedroom though, and bookcases in my office and guest room.
3 cats + stand of woods + cat door + black stained floors = constant housework.
