Personally, I don't think I could bring myself to spend more than two or three hundred dollars (if anything...) for a television. Costco has some nice televisions for that.

My wife felt she could spend twice that so we ended up with a larger Vizio with a picture that was utterly amazing compared to our kid-beaten ten year old analog television.

I don't ever buy insurance. If anything electronic dies when we have no money we can do without or buy a temporary replacement for next to nothing at a thrift store, on craigslist, etc.. Analog televisions are essentially free now.

Insurance is for life-or-death, keep-a-roof-over-your-head, and keep-you-out-of-jail stuff. And even if you have insurance against scary things if Harsh Reality really wants to bite your ass she'll read the fine print on your insurance policy and do it in a way that's not covered by your insurance.
