6. Another fun fact about Country Roads:

I can say from personal experience that it is BY FAR the most popular English language song performed at Munich's Oktoberfest.

Picture it: A tent full of 10,000 Germans (OK, maybe 8,000 Germans and 2,000 blasted, mostly British tourists) all standing up on the picnic tables arm in arm, singing along in their thick accents to John Denver's "Country Roads" as the oompah band situated in the middle of the tent strikes up the first notes. And they all know all the words. All of them. Even the little girls in their dirndls. It'd be scary if it wasn't so funny. And elsewhere on the fair grounds, there are another 14 tents, each holding thousands more people, and all of them, at some point in the evening, sining along to "Country Roads."

I have no explanation.
