And--oh yeah--color!

Don't be afraid of painting everything in sight--it's the best way to liven up a new house that's still "sterile"--and it's easy! (Why, yes, I do have a dozen paint buckets in my basement--how did you know? :P)

Also it's fun to pick up cool (all-wood!) furniture and knicknacks and lamps at flea markets and the not-too-snobby antique stores/co-ops. I recommend the Sunday morning flea market in Avon and the fairly inexpensive antique stores on 5&20. That way you can contrast the old with the new and, again, keep the house from being too sterile. And you'll also avoid the curse of being too "matchy matchy", like if you bought from furniture stores. Plus it's fun to hunt down bargains. Heck, it's even fun to go shopping for accessories at Target!
