24. Dell $2.7 billion in U.S. government contracts Iraq/Afghanistan
On Sept. 24, 2003, Dell announced that it was one of four information technology companies to receive a U.S. Army contract worth up to $500 million. The other contracts went to GTSI Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company and Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems. The contracts are designed to provide the U.S. Army with PCs, servers, storage systems, networking equipment, operating systems, commercial software and accessories. The contracts also provide for biometric devices like fingerprint recognition and wearable computers. In September 2002, Dell Marketing L.P. won a $7.7 million U.S. government contract for laptops and computer workstations for use aboard Navy ships in the Pacific. In May 2002, Dell Marketing L.P. won a $17.7 million competitive contract from the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command for 9,940 notebook computers.
