4. Steve Irwin said a lot of very interesting things in his interview

with Larry King, which was replayed late last night. He not only answered the questions concerning his son being held while feeding a crock, but he answered his critics about the concern over animals being displayed and showcased (for instance, his zoo in Australia). I found his message almost prophetic. Irwin explained how children need to touch and feel...to see animals up-close ...and to learn about them. He continued, by explaining how people won't try to preserve what they don't know. And, Irwin talked about the urgency of conservation-- in terms of the here and now.

Possibly, some of the anger and hostility seen on these boards over Irwin, might have been better put to use on those who didn't care at all about animals or their welfare. IMHO.

As for his death: CNN was reporting only 2 documented fatalities in Australia have been by stingrays. It is very, very rare. And, I venture to say, if Irwin had lived through it, he wouldn't have blamed the animal at all.
