20. When I shaved off my facial hair
(a moustache...though I never thought of me as having one, perhaps because it was just a temporary fun gimmick I tried after shaving off most of my Che-like beard at age 20 and not having time to finish the job before I went to class...didn't get around to shaving it off for another 20 years) I not only looked younger -- almost too young (especially when I dyed my hair) -- but I couldn't get over the look of my face and the fact that I had an upper lip. I was very self-conscious, and it all just felt fundamentally wrong. Really did feel like I was going out into public naked, for a while, and I kept touching my upper lip as if to make sure it was really still there.

Weird stuff, what you get used to without thinking and how you can miss it when it's gone.
