Wondering about my Politics Addiction
Advertisements [?]
Around 1999, I remember only being obliquely concerned about politics. When things are going generally well, you tend to let the people in charge do their jobs and get to the business of having a life.

As pissed as I am at having the War on Common Fucking Sense brought to my front door by Chimp and the Bonzo Brigade, I realize that I've gone from obliquely indifferent to rabidly opinionated in short step.

I miss not caring. I was a lot happier then. The point I think is that typically we SHOULDN'T NEED to be this engaged in politics and I think unless you're making a living at this, it's an expensive hobby, mentally speaking. My problem seems to be that, while I recognize the value in the new vigilance I ascribe to, I also know that, on occasion, I've been losing my mind just dealing with mundane shit. When a thought of "those goddamn neocons" regularly gets in fender benders with thoughts like "did I turn off the coffee pot?" or "I could use a bit more sleep tonight", it starts to beg for action.

In other words, I can't seem to mentally disengage when I need to. Anyone have any useful strategies? Or have you all succumbed completely as well?
