that Led Zep somehow became more god-like because they quit at the height of their fame.

THAT is completely irrelevant, to me.

To consider the greatness of an artist, the best and most important work must be considered, what they were at the height of their game, because all groups slide in popularity and output. The Stones beat all other rockers, on that scale. Everyone is reduced to being an oldies act after awhile, which is what the Stones, the Who, and Led Zep ( in the Page/Plant permutations now) ALL are. The Stones are still a great live band, and have the most important output of these three bands, by far.
