In the mid-eighties, I always saw them in the listings for d.c. space (before they ditched the land of Dischord and headed to New York). I later learned why they never played the 9:30 Club from the woman who booked the 9:30. Story involving a stolen poptart, but versions vary.

Anyway, I just thought they would suck because of the James Bond association (Honor Blackman played "Pussy Galore" in Goldfinger). I thought they'd play that stupid twangy spy music type of thing. It turned out that they played something much worse. And I loved it.

And still do.
