19. Schindler's List was put out while I was still at Universal
and I saw it with other employees at a special screening. We had been working on a lot of DTS productions since Steven Spielberg and Universal were working with the creators of DTS and distributing all films from Amblin and Universal with it. The theatre was one of the first equipped with the new sound system.

All the employees had working on the movie in some capacity, so we knew some of what was going on. I brought my nieces with me to see it. I knew there were some really gruesome parts, but when you've seen the film with all of the stuff in context, it's a shock.

During the screenings, it was common to talk about elements and such, but during the showing of Schindler's List, there was almost complete silence. And at the very end, there was stunned silence. Complete and utter silence--except for a few sobs here and there. For even jaded entertainment workers, it had a major impact. I haven't seen it since. I don't want to--the impact was quite enough the first time.
