40. Vegetarianism is not an option.
So much of the protein requirement comes from soy when vegetarian, and soy for those of us with thyroid disorders or the potential for thyroid disorders is like feeding gluten flour to someone with celiac disease. It's just a good way to make a situation worse.

I limit my soy to soy sauce and the occasional boca burger and tofu a couple times a month. Any more than that and the isoflavinoids start mimicking TSH and it lowers my TSH levels, leaving me tired all the time, achy, cold and just generally miserable.

We do lots of whole grains, beans and non-fat dairy (That's all I buy - why buy crap when the good stuff costs the same?)
