Left with a choice in such a situation I might try to bone up on my Bulgarian by watching the local TV stations and trying to read whatever advertising was left in the room. Those little cards describing the restaurants can be like the Rosetta stone.
Larry King might be tolerable under these circumstances if there's a minibar in the room and your Ambien supply is readily at hand.
