Tho Bundy's wife is not really very mature herself, the trend in these sitcoms is for the man to be a loveable "big kid" who screws up in some way and the wife to be almost motherly, mature, never does wrong, etc.

You just don't see the other side very often - rational, loving, overly-forgiving husband with a "big-kid" wife who farts, fantasizes about food, etc.

I find this to be part of the strait-jacket the media put women into...
