Is Firefox a good browser?

My uncle told me to use Netscape but I'm starting to not like it so much. My sister and her boyfriend use Mozilla Firefox and swear by it. What browser should I use? You know, quick...relatively few pop-ups...not as many holes as my uncle said my Internet Explorer browser has for viruses...that type of thing.

And please add how to get that browser.
