You are absolutely correct, maha -- our brutal treatment of the Filipinos remains one of the greatest blights in our nation's history. But when you consider the reasoning for getting involved in the Spanish-American War in the first place, it's not all that surprising. Don't forget -- President McKinley also claimed that God talked to him and that America was doing its "Christian duty" in bringing civilization to those backwards Filipinos.
