However, it's quite clear to me that you bought into preconcieved notions, perhaps backed up by an early interaction or two. No, there will never likely be a large African American community in Oregon, due to the state's history. However, that has little to do with your accusations that everyone here is in a state of denial. The exact opposite is the reality. This place talks about these issues far more than I have ever noted in the south. And it's interesting that your examples are the usual cliches about Portland that have nothing to do with the substance of this city. I suspect that says a lot about why you think the way you do. You want to bust some myths, work on your own first. It would be impossible for me to believe such a sweeping accusation as you made about any part of the country, so how about starting with that myth, as you wrote it?
