"Dear Mr Rather,
I want to personally thank you for NOT backing down on this story about the bush memos, and for providing further background as to the REAL story behind them, which is Lt bush's failure to follow a direct order and take his required physical and therefore his failure to satisfactorily complete his duty.
It would be equally interesting to find out the reasons WHY Lt bush felt it necessary to avoid that physical.
I know that CBS, and specifically you Mr Rather, have been the subject of alot of anger and scorn for daring to go public with this story. There are, as I am sure you are now painfully aware, an awful lot of highly partisan and extremely vicious right-wing websites on the internet. But I want you to know that there are just as many, if not more, on the center and on the left, that applaud your efforts to examine this story to its' fullest, and to ignore the baying of the right-wing attack-dogs and do your job, report the news and investigate the leads.
Ever since Mr bush came into office, and especially after 9/11, there was been an overall reluctance in the media in this country to examine too closely the goings-on of this administration for fear of being labelled "Un-patriotic" or "Un-American". However, I can think of nothing more "un-patriotic" or "Un-American" than the subserviance and kow-towing that has been served to the American public under the guise of 'journalism' this past four years.
It appears as though CBS has finally figured out to whom it owes its' allegiance, and to whom it is ultimately responsible, the American public.
We deserve nothing but the truth, good , bad or ugly, without the 'spin' or the poorly shaded partisanship of some of your competitors. You have done the American public a great service by bringing this story to the forefront, and I encourage you to continue on this course.
Someone once wrote, "Let the truth be known though the Heavens may fall."
I couldn't agree more.
We, the people, deserve the truth. Anything less is unacceptable.
Thank you."
After watching tonight's 60 minutes I felt compelled to write, somebody FINALLY said it on national TV, in essence, bush went AWOL.
