...and bumper stickers in my neighborhood…

I know there have been some “gloom and doom” polls appearing lately (just in time for Kitty Kelly’s book and Dan Rather's report), but I can’t get over the number of “Kerry/Edward” signs, and bumper stickers, in my neighborhood. What makes this so significant is that I live in a community that’s 2 to 1 Republican over Democrat. I just don’t see that many "Bush/Cheney" signs.

Just this morning after dropping my daughter off at school I drove through a ritzy part of town on my way to work. I don’t normally drive this route but was amazed to see 3 Kerry signs on one block and no Bush signs. These are houses that are probably valued at 10 times what my house is, so I was amazed to see that there are upper-rungs of the economic ladder supporting Kerry, more so perhaps than what the media want us to believe. I wondered if I were to see, for argument, 3 Kerry signs and one Bush sign on one block, could this be extrapolated to mean 75% of those residents on that block support Kerry? Or would those residents without signs represent a 50/50 split with a slight advantage given to Kerry? Or (horrors!) are most of those residents without signs complacently supporting the present junta and just not want to advertise it? What summaries can be gleaned from polling yard signs and bumper stickers? I don’t know since I’m not a statistician, but what I’ve seen sure looks promising!

Also of interest:
Recently I attended a Boy Scout meeting with my six-year son at his elementary school. This was an “introduction to scouting” so there were many boys of different ages there. My son wanted to get into scouting as he has just entered the first grade and many of his friends and classmates were joining the scouts. I think it is mainly for the camaraderie. Anyway, there was one boy there, about 9 or 10 years old, who was wearing a black shirt with white wording on the front that read “’You are either with us or with the enemy’—George W. Bush” and I thought “Oh, well, this is GOP country.” But when he passed me I read on the back of his shirt “Enemy.” Hmmm—maybe the community is not so much pro-GOP as anti-Bush.

And I’ve seen a lot of anti-Bush statements on non-“librul-like” vehicles in my community. In addition to "Volvos and hybrids," I see anti-Bush stickers on pickups as well. One large “He-Man”-type truck had written across the cab’s back window “George, I can’t afford you anymore” with stick-on letters. After careful deliberation with my wife (could have been a comment on a sour marriage or a dispute with a business partner), we took this to be an anti-Bush statement.

So, to Hell with the polls, especially from Media who have proven to be shills for the Bush Junta (remember CNN and the “yawning boy” story?). As I recall, the “polls” had George up a few points over Gore in 2000 right up to election day eve, and we all know who really won.

I’ve got a strong sense that Kerry is going to win, and win big!!!
