4. I used to tell people that Rush doesn't believe what he says...
...because he is intelligent and an intelligent person would never believe that crap. You should have seen some of the freepers' who I told this too, heads spin. They looke like a cyborg in a sci-fi movie caught in a logic loop. They would ask me why does he say those things then, and I would reply that it gives him an audience of weak minded hateful people and thus makes money for him. I remember the first time I ever heard him. I had just moved to Virginia from Colorado and I thought who the hell is this guy? My hypothesis is he started as your run of the mill conservative talk radio guy but then recognized that when he said outlandish things he energized the right wing whackos and his phone board would light up. I picture him in the booth saying "watch the boards light up after I say this piece of crap." Well it made him rich but it also left him unable to control the whackos. They continued to demand his lying bullshit and he continued to provide it. At first perhaps out of fear that they might find out what he really was but then he started to believe the adulation and stopped being able to tell the difference between reality and freeperland. Oh and the oxycontin didn't help any.
