07:20 am September 2, 2011 West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center Where the quake occurred. This just happened: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 has been detected in a remote area of the Aleutian Islands off Alaska, about 1,000 miles west southwest of Anchorage, the U.S. Geological Survey reports. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not issued a warning, watch or advisory at this time for areas outside where the quake occurred.
