Underground bases built into the side of mountains, abandoned.

Tunnel complexes linking underground bases. Also abandoned.

Hangers full of WWII equipment (hundreds of Jeeps parked bumper-to-bumper). Sealed-up and forgotten jet-engine testing laboratories.

That was just on one base during my time in the service. Our military has built incredible infrastructure, much of it out of the sight of the civilian population. Sadly a lot of it is sealed up and unused.

On Sept. 10, 2001, Donald Rumsfeld announced that the Pentagon had lost track of $2.3 trillion dollars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kpWqdPMjmo). The next day an aircraft slammed into the accounting division of the Pentagon, the very place responsible for tracking that money.
