The study found that people who harbored racist views of the aboriginal peoples in Australia believed that their views were normative. Indeed, many of those individuals that identified themselves as having racist views reported that they believed many of their family, friends, colleagues and fellow citizens held views that were more extreme then their own, thereby granting some sort of validity to their own racist views.

Reading this story about Franklin Graham and how he doesn't feel his statements about other religions being offensive reminded me of the study and the article. There are simply times when even a facepalm just doesn't say it all.
