71. The state is broke...
Either tuition goes up or services get cut right?

The state is already in another budget hole, one which could be even worse than last year. The public simply will not accept any tax increases, NO Republican will go along with any tax increases even if Arnold proposes them. State services are going to be slashed next year and in years going forward, there is just no way around that unless the state just completely defaults or the Federal Government bails CA out.

The state is flat broke, there is no more money. The only way for public universities to avoid fee and tuition hikes is to cut services - ie, fire teachers and administration, curtail university services, etc.

I just can't see what the solution is here. People scream "soak the rich", but it isn't going to happen. There probably won't be any tax hikes at all. So what can be done?
