Constitution keeps America thriving, Lynne Cheney tells students

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Lynne Cheney held up her book “America” and told about 120 elementary school students that despite a terrorist attack five years ago, the country is still thriving.

Cheney, the wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, credited the U.S. Constitution with giving the country the strength to move on during a speech Monday to students from two Louisville-area schools as part of National Constitution Day.

She quoted “America the Beautiful” in the opening of her book

“O beautiful for patriot dream, That sees beyond the years, Thine alabaster cities gleam, Undimmed by human tears!”

“It’s still true,” Cheney said. “Even though they hurt the towers, our alabaster cities do gleam.”
