10. It's the bigger story reflected by young men like Clarett
It's a story that keeps repeating itself over and over in this society. How we are losing so many talented young people to crime, to drugs, to self-destructive behavior. Many of us who knew of Maurice Clarett prior to his ever donning the uniform of the Buckeyes were looking for a feel good story, a story about a kid who grew up in a bad neighborhood but made good. But he turned out to be yet another victim, another angry and damaged young man whose remarkable talents were wasted and whose life appears to be one headed for jail. There are thousands upon thousands of young men and women in our country just like Clarett, but perhaps hearing stories such as this one will open a dialogue about some serious sickness in our society. That's where stories like this can be important -- not crap about Paris Hilton buying a pair of shoes or who Jennifer Ansotn is dating, but stories of the American Dream gone horribly awry.
