Police confirm oil exec's car was firebombed
Last Updated: Friday, August 18, 2006 | 10:41 AM ET
CBC News

Quebec provincial police have confirmed that a bomb destroyed the car owned by the chief spokesman for the oil industry in Quebec two weeks ago.

Carol Montreuil's car exploded in the driveway of his home in the upscale neighbourhood of Lorraine, in the municipality of Thérèse-De Blainville, northwest of Montreal.

At the time, police were not sure if the explosion was caused by an electrical malfunction or a bomb, even though a little-known group called the Initiative de résistance internationaliste (IRI) claimed it had firebombed the car.

The IRI is the same group that claimed responsibility for bombing a Hydro-Québec tower close to the U.S. border on the eve of U.S. President George W. Bush's visit in 2004. No arrests were made after that incident.

Seems like a perfect set-up for a pre November capture of terrorists.
