Bush Takes Country Trip as Attacks Reverberate

SEDGEFIELD, England (Reuters) - George W. Bush and Tony Blair sealed their alliance with a traditional pub lunch on Friday but fresh attacks in Iraq ensured international politics again tore up the allies' script.

Over 1,000 police threw a security cordon around the area as Bush's helicopter touched down in the former mining village of Trimdon. He drank tea in Blair's home before moving to the nearby town of Sedgefield for a meal of fish, chips and mushy peas in the Dun Cow Inn.

"To defeat terrorism, the U.S. is creating more of the same," said retired engineer Malcolm Jones, 58.

"The bombings in Turkey are the chickens coming home to roost. The U.S. dared to put their military might in the Muslim world and the reprisals are coming."
