More than two-thirds of British voters believe they have been deceived by Tony Blair's Government over the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's weapons program, a poll has found.

The ICM poll, for The Sunday Telegraph, shows the Hutton inquiry into the death of British weapons expert David Kelly has severely hit public trust in the Blair Government.

It comes as Mr Blair and Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon prepare to give evidence to the inquiry this week and coincides with the release of documents that show the Prime Minister was intimately involved in the process of outing Dr Kelly.

Dr Kelly apparently committed suicide on July 17 after being named as the source of a BBC story that claimed No. 10 had "sexed up" the case against Saddam Hussein in the Government's Iraq dossier last September.
