Venezuela Official Condemns Celebrations

CARACAS–Venezuelan Vice President Elias Jaua Monday condemned the celebrations that were seen the previous night after U.S. President Barack Obama announced the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Speaking during a television appearance, Mr. Jaua criticized the U.S. for using, what he called, assassination as an official strategy, saying “it is surprising how the crime and killing has become normal and was celebrated.”

President Hugo Chavez, Washington’s loudest critic in the region, has been highly vocal in his disapproval of the recent U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organization airstrikes on his ally Libya.

During a speech Sunday, Mr. Chavez again said that western governments were trying to target Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi after NATO airstrikes that reportedly killed a son and three grandchildren of the leader.
