US judge clears bail for Israeli accused of nuke exports to Pakistan
Advertisements [?]
A United States federal court judge has upheld a court decision to release an Israeli businessman on bail, pending his trial on charges that he illegally exported devices which could be used in nuclear weapons to Pakistan.

Chief Judge Thomas Hogan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, however, has added conditions to the terms for releasing Asher Karni, a report suggested here Thursday.

The judge described the weight of prosecution evidence against the defendant as "substantial", but also acknowledged the non-violent nature of the alleged crime and character references from Karni's supporters.

In a written opinion, the judge noted the absence of connections tying Karni to the U.S. and set extra bail conditions. They include being released into the custody of a local rabbi and home detention at Hebrew Sheltering Home, just outside Washington.
