I've been told by an informed source
that I have shin splints due to running on concrete. I was talking to a guy I work with yesterday about my aching legs. He is in his early 50s and him and his wife have been jogging for most of their adult lives. I told him the pain was just below the knee on both legs and he said that it was most likely shin splints. I asked him if it was ok to walk when you had them and he said it should be alright. I haven't jogged in 3 days and my legs are starting to feel better. He also recommended that I get a shoe with a lot of heal support if I was going to be some jogging in the future. I'm sure my weight had something to do with getting the shin splints as well. I'm about 100 pounds overweight. But he was probably too polite to mention that.

1. Go to a shoe store that specializes in running shoes
if you have one in your town. They will fit you for shoes based on how you run and fit you with the proper size. This helped my shin splints alot.

2. go to a little store
i have been trying to support small stores over chains, and bought a pair of shoes at a venerable old little sports store. the guy looked at my foot, and told me which shoes from which makers were made for feet like mine. he also made sure i had a shoe for what i was doing. it was totally worth the money.
also droopy, i am just getting in shape, and can't take the pounding of running. but i am really enjoying biking. do you have a bike?

3. Let me recommend these shoes
http://www.spirafootwear.com/spirahome.html

I liked mine so much I bought 2 pair (one pair for when I work out at home and one pair I leave at the gym for my workouts there).

These shoes are illegal in the Olympics, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. :silly:
