I'm crashing
I was treated for depression about 10 years ago. It was bad and chronic--four hospitalizations. But it honestly got better. A change of scenery and working the 12 steps of Emotions Anonymous helped. So, of course, once I was better, I stopped doing what had helped. Well, it's back.

I feel like nothing is going right, can't eat, can't sleep, worry, worry, worry, and occasional thoughts of self-harm. Not suicide, but cutting. Haven't done it, but keep thinking it would be a relief.

I'm glad to know this group is here. I have an appointment with a counselor tomorrow, and found an EA meeting in town. I can't go next week, because of a work meeting, but the week after that I'll be there.

I hate to be struggling with this all again, though. Thanks for reading.

1. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I myself have been tilting with a major depressive episode for nearly a year now.

I'm still here and in one piece in part thanks to this forum.

Be so very good to you.

3. I honestly think that mental health problems are seldom cured,
but managed, so I also will not be at all surprised if my major depression, anxiety disorder and borderline symptoms return at some point in my life.

It helps me to know that I came out of it once - now going on about 20 years (!), though it rears its ugly head once in awhile.....
This gives me some confidence that I can find a way to handle it if needed in the future.

All the best, and glad you have support appointments set up.

4. EA gave me the skills to handle it,
but I forgot about the "powerless" part. That is, as you say, it's not cured but managed. A crisis at work--to which I responded with depression and anxiety--has brought this all back into focus. I should've known it would return. Now that it has, I need to rally my resources.

Thanks for your kind words. It's good to have found this forum.

5. Are you on meds now?
If so, what meds? If not, what meds were you taking and how long ago did you stop?

This is not idle chit-chat.

Hang in, you have friends here. Have you reached out to start developing links to caregivers and support assets?
