A DU meetup, perhaps?
Is there enough Duers that live around the Nevada area, on down to through SW missouri, as far east as Springfield, to hold a DU meetup? I know there are a few of us in that area...

I've never been to a DU meetup before, and it sounds interesting...:)

1. Set something up on a weekend
during the day, maybe? And I will organize a field trip for anyone here in KC who wants to come. Nevada is not all that far from here. And we have a rather large group here in KC. We had about 20 or 30 at a meetup last summer.

We also met some DUers from Columbia at a statewide DFA event. We should be sure to invite them too.

I have an email list so I can email folks as well as post the notice here.

Another way to get folks together is to plan and publicize events here on DU. I have met a lot of DUers at political rallies, etc.

We have also merged our KC meetups with Drinking Liberally. So we have recruited new DUers as well.

And please watch this forum because I always post progressive events here. I know it is a trip for you but we would love to have you join us here in KC. We do stuff all the time.

Are you on our DFHA list?

2. There are those of us in the KC area who would come down
There is a new Yahoogroup devoted to elections in Missouri. Check out this page.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ShowMeTheVote/

If this seems like a worthwhile effort, to take our government and our voting machinery back from the bureaucrats and the corporations, please send an email and request to join in.

To do what is proposed will require the citizens of this state, both rural and urban, to reach out and grab those Constitutional rights which have been systematically taken from voting citizens and given over to corporations.

4. I'd love it
but w/ the way things go for me I couldn't say one way or another.

I've planned on meeting DUers in the past but have had things come up at the last possible minute. (Bad weather, flooding, lack of babysitter-name it).

Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 02:13 AM by petersond
suggest Joplin for the meet up, like at an eatery, like Golden Choral, or something of that nature...Nevada, if memory serves is about 40 minutes north of Joplin, an hour or less away from Springfield, and 35 minutes away from me...:D

I'm not to familiar with Joplin, but if any Joplin folk, can suggest a place, go ahead an throw some ideas into the collective hat...

on edit:spelling/clarify...

6. Joplin's not too far.
Springfield is a bit over 2 hours-not that bad.

I should contact a friend who used to post. She'd make me go.

7. I think, Joplin is just about center
for the SW Missouri area...I think Springfield is 50 miles, away, Nevada 45 or so, and I'm 30+ so away...:D I think it would be nice to have a meetup, its difficult to find like minded Dems in my area...at our Dem Club, most of the members are very old, they are fiery, and dislike the Pubs greatly, but it would be nice to be around people, who didn't experience the great depression...no knock on them, it just gets old...:D
