Best ticket strictly from a strategic point of view.

The best ticket for MD Dem's would be...

O'Malley&Brown/Mfume/Simms/Owens (or Franchot)

Think about it. If we field a ticket like this.

O'Malley - Governor (White dude)
Cardin - Senate (Old white dude)
Gansler - Attorney General (Young cocky white dude)
Schaefer - Comptroller (Crazy old white dude)

Will the base (read: African Americans) really turn out for a statewide Democratic ticket like that? Your kidding yourself if you say, yes.

Races in MD are won by turning out the base in record #'s in Baltimore City, Prince Georges County, and Montgomery County (Glendening only carried these 3)... while not getting crushed in the Baltimore suburbs. We dont have to win there, we just have to try not to get crushed there.

Meanwhile Republicans are looking at the following ticket.

Ehrlich - Governor
Steele - Senate (African American)
Rolle - Attorney General
Spradley - (African American)

1. Nope
I'd like to discuss some of the details but I am so offended by the notion that African American voters will only turn out for somebody with dark skin that I can't stand it.

KKT 2002. Not a single African American on the statewide ticket and as a result 18-20% decided to vote Ehrlich/Steele while many others simply stayed home.

3. Irrelevant
statistic ...

KKT was the worst campaign/campaigner in my lifetime. Hell, I had trouble forcing myself to go out and vote for her.

4. Agree
She was an idiot. My roommate at the time asked "Did you vote for feather head today?" I did reluctantly just to not vote repub. Saying she lost because there were no african americans on ticket without taking into account the candidate herself doesn't work with me. Didn't she address some school and say "It's great to be here at ..." and name the wrong school? Maybe my memory is bad but I think something like that happened.

5. No, Mfume's been out of the game too long and is too liberal...
to get cross-over votes.

I like him, but we have to keep this seat Democratic.
